2018 The reflective qualities and vibrant colours of glass always fascinated me and since retiring from a lifetime in business and journalism I have time to further my hobby as a glass artist. I have taken several short courses at the Ulster University Art College and at the Newtownards studio of International glass artist Karl Harron who continues to be my mentor. I produce three dimensional art (often presented on impressive polished steel fabricated to my design) various sizes of art panels, large decorative bowls, splashbacks and windows (which have been double glazed, laminated and installed by leading window manufactures).
My work is designed, cut, shaped then kiln fused from dozens of different sophisticated contemporary glasses which I combine to give the complex colour palettes, shapes and textures which are the hallmark of my work. I exhibit regularly in all the USWA Exhibitions and was delighted to receive the Gladys Morrow Award for Innovative Sculpture at their Diamond Anniversary show. Also at the Mossley Mill Gallery of Antrim and Newtownabbey District Council. One of my large plaques was selected for submission to the RUA exhibition but unfortunately didn’t make it through to the final selection. My work has also appeared in publisher Conde Nast ‘World of Interiors’.
