Kay loved drawing since childhood. She was inspired by the beautiful Mourne Mountains, where she grew up, and the poetry read to her as a child. She began painting in oils, moved to watercolour and then to pastel. Now she enjoys mixed media, inks and collage to add textures and a third dimension to her work. her 2016 exhibitions in Lisburn and Belfast were themed on the poetry of WB Yeats and extended her practice and imagination as an artist. The mystical writings of Yeats engendered colourful dreams and enabled her to form new ideas and create colourful semi-abstract work which proved highly successful. Her favourite artists include Rembrandt, Klimt and Rosie McClelland.
