We had a wonderful time at the coffee morning on the 27th January!
It's a special day in our year for members to meet and also get to know new members. It was such a pleasure to see so many of our membership present at Malone Golf Club to enjoy a catch-up, coffee and a scone. Each year we raise donations for a charity and this year, we chose Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary. Carol Workman spoke so eloquently about how the animals are saved and rehabilitated with the passion and dedication of the Crosskennan team of workers and volunteers. She also reminded us of how much animals teach us and how much they help us in our well-being. She shared with us her own journey of how she came to work at the sanctuary, and how beneficial it has been for her well-being and satisfaction in her life. We are proud to have been able to help in our way. We thank all who brought and bought at our bring and buy sale and also contributed to the fun of the raffle. Our Society is being researched and celebrated as part of a PhD project by Anna Leiching. She is currently one of the curators at the Ulster Museum. She gave a fascinating talk about the importance of there being a proper recognition of the contribution Northern Irish female artists have made to the art world over the last 300 years, and in the past there has been little inclusion of female artists within an art history context. She is keen to change and update this narrative. She would welcome any members who have documents or contributions of memories to make. Lesley can put you in touch with her. Noelle Mc Alinden - our wonderful Patron also come to see us and spoke of her passion for campaigning for the end of stigma attached to issues surrounding mental health and the key parts that the creative arts play in helping people with their mental well-being. A great morning altogether on very many levels!! See you at the AGM!! 23rd March . |
