I’ve always loved telling a story through painting and drawing the viewer in. I’ve been a practicing artist for fifteen years and in that time, I’ve exhibited Nationally and Internationally. At my graduation show in Belfast Art College, I was awarded the prestigious John Turner Bursary award. I then received funding and won several awards including a New York residency from The NI arts council. Several years later, I was awarded funding from The Culture Company to have my third solo show in the UK, during Derry’s year as ‘City of Culture.’ I was also selected to appear on Sky Portrait artist of the year and have had my work published several times.
Over the years, there has been a hiatus in my art practice due to teaching Art in secondary schools and taking time to start a family. However, I always drew on these experiences and applied them to my work when I eventually returned to it.
Recently I’ve had less time to commit to using my favourite medium, oil paints, so I began to experiment with watercolour paints, a medium I hadn’t previously attempted. I enjoyed watching the variety of birds that would visit our garden on a daily basis. This inspired me to paint my most recent subject: Birds.
